Course Description

Coding is a 45-day exploratory course designed to spark interest in computer science and STEM.  This course will introduce you to the practices of computational thinking, fundamental concepts and methods of computer programming, and basic robotics through a variety of engaging, hands-on activities.

Course Goals

  • Students will become familiar with technical vocabulary, common programming logic, and best practices of coding conventions.

  • Students create logical programming statements and algorithms by using elements such as loops, conditionals, variables, and functions.

  • Students will explore concepts of basic robotics by becoming familiar with the internal components of the Sphero Bolt robot and their functions.

  • Students will become proficient at automated motion and RGB LED programming.

  • Students will monitor and evaluate the data from sensors (magnetometer, accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light, and infrared) and use the data to control the outcome of the robot.

  • Students will create, iterate and debug programs to solve robotics challenges individually and as a team.
